747,326. Jet-propelled aircraft. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. June 25, 1954 (Aug. 24, 1953], No. 18724/54. Class 4. [Also in Group XXI] A device for indicating the relative position of the line of thrust of a jet-propelled aircraft or rocket, and the longitudinal axis, when at rest, comprises members supporting the weight of the machine before take-off, being deformable under the weight of and forces applied to the aircraft, combined with means for comparing their deformations at different values of thrust. In Fig. 4, a rocket 1 rests on four members 14 having pistons 6 within cylinders 5 filled with fluid. The two cylinders of each diametrically opposite pair of cylinders communicate with either side of a piston 8 within a cylinder 7. A rod 9 extending from the piston 8 is normally centred by a spring 10 and bears an indicator 12 movable by piston 8 with respect to a datum 13, If the thrust of the jet-propulsion unit does not pass through the centre of gravity G of the aircraft, but deviates by an angle α, the reactions on the members 14 will be unequal, and the indicator 12 will move from datum 13. Only three members 14 may be used. For non- vertical take-off, rollers 20 (Fig. 5) support one component F 1 of the weight, and members 14 support the component F 2 . If desired, the cylinders 5 may be mounted on the aircraft together with the indicator, the pistons 6 being on the ground. |
