The system has a roll-hemming head (2) including a guide that is provided in a reference position along a path of a preset folding edge (11) of a component (10) by relative movement between a roll-hemming device and the component. A sensor device (4) is arranged at one of the roll-hemming device and a retention device (3) to detect an actual position of the roll-hemming device and the component that is arranged in the retention device. The sensor device includes a non-contact measuring sensor to detect the path of the folding edge. An independent claim is also included for a method for dimensionally stable roll-hemming of a component.
