PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more compact, high speed digital camera and optical equipment for making high precision AF control with respect to an object moving in an optical axis direction, wherein so-called mountain climbing AF is performed by driving an imaging element and high precision AF is performed at a high speed. SOLUTION: The digital camera comprises: a photographing lens 20 including a focus lens 21, a lens driving part 22 and a lens control part 23; and a camera body 30 including a body control part 31, the imaging element 32 and an imaging element driving part 33. The body control part 31 is configured to calculate the focusing degree of the object image captured by the imaging element 32 as a focus evaluation value, then, control the movement of the focus lens 21 and the movement of the imaging element 32 based on the focus evaluation value so as to adjust the focus. The main control part 31 is configured to finely drive the imaging element 32 in the optical axis direction and detect the defocusing amount of the object upon the continuous AF of continuously performing the focus control during a release operation.
