<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a superior alignment layer by delivering a liquid material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes: a substrate 10; a non-organic material layer 18 formed on the substrate 10; the alignment layer 26 formed on the non-organic material layer 18; and a liquid crystal layer 16 arranged on the alignment layer 26. A ditch 24 is formed outside of the alignment layer 26 in the non-organic material layer 18. A contour of the ditch 24 at the side of the alignment layer 26 is irregularly formed.
