<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device displaying a high quality image without causing image persistence even if the image is rewritten frequently. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display device has: a rewriting frequency storage means for storing the cumulative number of times in which rewriting voltage is applied to an electrochemical display element; a rewriting frequency counting means for counting the number of times of applying the rewriting voltage to the electrochemical display element and updating the cumulative number of times stored in the rewriting frequency storage means; an image data generation means for generating value of display density to be displayed next by the electrochemical display element on the basis of the cumulative number of times; and a voltage application control means for making control so that the rewriting voltage is applied to the electrochemical display element on the basis of image data.
