PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording device capable of applying proper tension relative to a continuous medium without providing a particular mechanism for preventing breaking of the continuous medium at starting of conveying, and its control method. SOLUTION: In the image recording device, a roll-like recording medium is continuously conveyed and is wound on a rotation drum and an image is formed on the wound recording medium. Tension at the maximum diameter of the roll-like recording medium is applied to the recording medium by a tension giving mechanism 13 at starting of conveying, and a conveying speed by a pair of nip rollers 33 is set to a slower speed than that at printing. Further, if the conveying speed becomes a constant speed, the tension based on a winding diameter of the recording medium is calculated from a rotational speed of the roll-like recording medium and a rotational speed of the rotation drum by a winding diameter calculation part 114. A drive setting determination part 116 applies the calculated tension to the recording medium and sets the conveying speed of the recording medium to a printing speed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
