Disclosed is a fuel processing device comprising: a reformer (110); a raw material supply unit (201) having the functions of supplying raw material to the reformer (110) via a raw material supply line (113) and of shutting off the supply of raw material; a steam supply unit (114) having the functions of supplying steam to the reformer (110) via the steam supply line (115) and of shutting off the supply of steam; a closure device (141) for shutting off a gas circuit (152) downstream of the reformer (110); and a control device (200). The control device (200) is designed to shut off the supply of raw material from the raw material supply unit (201) and the supply of steam from the steam supply unit (114), to cut off the reformer (110) by closing the closure device (141), and to perform pressure compensation by making combined use of the steam supply from the steam supply unit (114) and of the raw material supply from the raw material supply unit (201) in order to prevent a drop in the pressure which accompanies a drop in the temperature of the reformer (110) after the cutting off process has occurred.
