<p>An optical channel quality monitor (10) for monitoring the quality of an optical channel comprises an optical-to-electrical converter (2) receiving an optical signal (3) associated to an optical channel. Downstream of the optical-to-electrical converter (2), an electrical analog-to-digital converter (4) is provided. The optical channel quality monitor (10) further comprises histogram determining means (5) for determining a histogram (7) based on an output signal (60) of the analog-to-digital converter (4). Further, the quality monitor (10) comprises computing means (8) for computing a quality signal (QoT) based on the histogram (7), wherein the quality signal (QoT) is indicative of the transmission quality of the optical channel.</p> |
