PURPOSE: An optical input device, an electronic computing device, and a method for operating an optical input device are provided to produce a finger imaging device through TFT technology, thereby implementing a capacitive fingerprint sensor which is more robust. CONSTITUTION: An optical input device includes a TFT(Thin-Film Transistor) imager(106) and an IC(Integrated Circuit)(108). The TFT imager includes a protective layer, a substrate, and a TFT array. The protective layer has a finger contact surface. The TFT array includes photo-sensitive thin-film transistors disposed on the surface of the substrate, between the substrate and the protective layer. The TFT array generates image signals corresponding to the physical features of a user's finger in contact with the finger contact surface of the protective layer. The integrated circuit is coupled to the TFT imager. The integrated circuit processes the image signals from the TFT array.
