PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress degradation due to abrasion and to improve working efficiency in changing a reference lens unit, in a mechanism and method of reference lens unit installation. SOLUTION: In the mechanism of reference lens unit installation, a lens frame includes an aligning surface perpendicular to a lens optical axis P and a rounded part 2A at a periphery side of an edge; the reference lens unit installation part 4 includes a positioning surface 5c perpendicular to a measurement base axis O, a base side grooved part 5A and a positioning projection 5B which have an inclined surface 5d and a cone inclined surface 5e and can engage the rounded part 2A, and a pressing member 9 which is provided movably back and forth at a side opposite to the base side grooved part 5A and the positioning projection 5B with interleaving the measurement base axis O; in which the reference lens unit is attached or detached while moving back or forth the pressing member 9 under the condition of interleaving the rounded part 2A between the base side grooved part 5A, the positioning projection 5B, and the pressing member 9.
