<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ferroelectric liquid crystal device built in a simple configuration and easy to control by driving the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel with a microcomputer incorporating a general-purpose liquid crystal driver. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This ferroelectric liquid crystal device includes a microcomputer 10 having a number of common output terminals COM1-COM4 and a number of segment output terminals SEG1-SEGn, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal panel 30. In this configuration, a common output terminal COM1 of the microcomputer 10 is connected to the common electrode C1 of the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel 30, the segment output terminals are connected to a number of segment electrodes S1-S6 of the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel 30, and the liquid crystal drive mode of the microcomputer 10 is set to a 1/2 duty mode, to drive the ferroelectric liquid crystal panel.
