773,180. Printing processes. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. Oct. 18, 1955 [Nov. 9, 1954], No. 29651/55. Class 100(2) Record material sensitized with particles of an adsorbent colour-reactant substance adapted, when brought into contact with an organic adsorbate colour-reactant substance including an oxidisable compound, to produce a distinctive colouration on the record material is characterized in that a zone of the sensitized record has applied thereto a highly polarized, non-volatile, non-colour forming, adsorbent substance adapted to be adsorbed by the adsorbent substance applied to the zone such as to prevent the adsorbent substance applied to the zone from reacting with the adsorbate colour-reactant substance to oxidize the oxidisable compound to form colour. As shown a three-sheet form is bound at the top 20, the rear 24 of the first sheet 21 being coated with a rupturable gelled hydrophilic, colloid film containing the droplets of colour reactant. The second sheet 25 has on its top surface the adsorbent sensitizing particles but on the area 26 it has been desensitized by the non-volatile, non-colour forming, adsorbent substance. The rear surface 27 of the second sheet is coated in the same manner as the rear of the first sheet and the top of the third sheet in the same manner as the top of the second sheet. The following non-volatile compounds may be used for desensitization; cationic quarternary ammonium salt such as alkyl trimethyl ammonium chlorides of the general formula R-N(CH 3 ) 3 C1 where R is any long chain alkyl group higher than the octyl group, aryl trimethyl ammonium chlorides of the. general formula R-N(CH 3 ) 3 C1 where R is an aryl group, and dialkyl dimethyl ammonium chlorides of the formula R 2 N(CH 3 ) 2 C1 where R is any long chain alkyl group higher than the octyl group; aliphatic or aryl amine acetates in which the aliphatic or aryl groups are higher than the octyl group; amines and diamines of high molecular weight; and substituted oxazoline.
