PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a system set-up time in an embedded device by skipping self-diagnosis in turning-on a power source or resetting the device and also to enhance reliability by reliably performing the self-diagnosis when needed. SOLUTION: An embedded device 100 counts times where the self-diagnosis is continuously skipped, and measures time when the self-diagnosis is continuously skipped. When the times for skipping the self-diagnosis or the time for skipping the self-diagnosis reaches a threshold, the self-diagnosis is performed. When both of the self-diagnosis skipping times and skipping time do not reach the thresholds, the self-diagnosis is skipped, so as to set up the system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
