PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a road stud relating to a device and a method for recognizing a lane for recognizing a lane on a road. SOLUTION: A candidate image generating section 11 performs expansion processing for expanding the region in all directions to a white region as a candidate region in a generated edge image, and generates an expanded image. A road stud detecting section 12 detects a road stud based on an aspect ratio and an area regarding the white region in the generated expanded image.
