PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus that is excellent in heat dissipation property and that prevents damage to a heat generating resistor in a thermal head. SOLUTION: The printing apparatus includes: a head protecting cover 1 that covers and protects the heat generating resistor 16 installed in the thermal head 2; turning levers 5, 22 and link levers 4, 21 which are each connected, through a freely turnable joint, to the head protecting cover 1 at one end and to a head supporting member 3 at the other end and which together comprise a link mechanism; and a driving part that drives the link mechanism by rotatably driving the turning levers 5, 22. The head protecting cover 1 freely slides relative to the thermal head 2 in the manner freely covering/exposing the heat generating resistor 16 in accordance with the driving of the link mechanism.
