A separator, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, &c., for the plates of an accumulator is made in one piece by a moulding or pressing operation and consists of a frame 1 (Figs. 1 and 5), which closely encloses the entire rim of one plate, with rod or strip-like spacers 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, for the plates and foot lugs for supporting the separator. As shown, the foot lugs may be continuations of the spacers 3<SP>1</SP>. In the form shown in Fig. 11, the frame 5 is of different shape to enclose the sintered plates 2<SP>1</SP> and several separator frames are adhesively secured, welded or hot pressed together to form a plate block. One of the outer faces of the block is closed by a frame 6 of practically the same cross-section as the separator frame and provided with a closing member 7, and the other face is closed by a member 8 secured to the outer separator frame 5. |
