In the cultivation method for plants grown in a greenhouse or similar space at least the lower part of the substrate (1) of the plants is divided into at least two parts (7a, 7b) isolated from each other laterally. Part of the roots (12a) of the plants is allowed to grow in the first part (7a) of the substrate and the second part of the roots of the plants (12b) is allowed to grow in the second part (7b) of the substrate. Fertilizer irrigation of these substrate parts is performed separately for both parts of the substrate, in such a way that one substrate part (7b) is fertilized with a strong fertilizer solution and the other (7a) with a substantially weaker fertilizer solution. The fertilizer is regulated according to the irrigation requirement and assimilation is prevented from being interrupted due to insufficient fertilizer irrigation.
