A vehicle (10) fitted with an internal combustion engine (12), exhaust treatment apparatus (24), a treatment storage tank (26), and a fuel tank (14) is provided. A warning system comprises means (15,27) to measure the volume of fluid present in each of the treatment storage tank and the fuel tank. A user interface (34,36) provides a warning to the driver when the measured volume of treatment is insufficient to treat the exhaust generated by combustion of the remaining fuel.
