A method of cutting car filters from a metal body, cap and filter element includes fixing a filter, cutting the filter body by a cutter and its subsequent separation into components. Fixing the filter is provided by a vacuum clutch. Cutting the filter body is carried out at its rotation around its axis by the cutter rigidly mounted on movable support bars. The invention provides for cutting the various designs of bodies of car filters with different diameters of bodies in single operation passage of the cutting tool.
