PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission wherein only one kind of software is provided for practicing automatic discrimination of the kind of a transmission mechanism. SOLUTION: A transmission command station includes a kind discrimination part wherein regarding two kinds of transmission mechanisms having different allocation of respective gear stages to respective positions in the actuator, allocation for both kinds is set, and at the time when the actuator moves to a specified position, whether or not a shift is produced in a specific gear stage in the transmission mechanism is referred to.
