PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a surplus storage area occurring on a hard disk device having a large storage area size when constructing a disk array. SOLUTION: A disk array controller includes a CPU part, a surplus storage area management part, an abnormality sign detection part, and a data copy control part. The CPU part constructs the disk array to a plurality of storage devices including a storage device having different storage capacity. The surplus storage area management part manages the surplus storage area occurring because the plurality of storage devices do not all have the same storage capacity. The abnormality sign detection part decides whether or not it is predicted that failure occurs in the future in each of the plurality of storage devices. The data copy control part copies data stored in the storage device predicted that failure occurs in the future to the surplus storage area when there is the storage device predicted that the failure occurs in the future by the abnormality sign detection part.
