<p>783,146. Coating with metals. METALLGES AKT.-GES. Oct. 14, 1955 [Dec. 13, 1954], No. 29442/55. Class 82(2) [Also in Groups XI and XXV] Flame-sprayed metallized carbon nipples for joining carbon graphite electrodes for electric arc furnaces have a thickness of sprayed metal on the threads of the nipples of not over 50 microns, preferably of 30 microns. An aluminium, copper or steel wire 2mm. in diameter is atomized at 30- 50 metres per minute by a spray gun employing atmospheric air and a fuel gas without oxygen or compressed air, so that metal particles having oxygen or compressed air, so that metal particles having grain diameters below 50 microns are produced in a spray jet expelled merely by the expanding burnt gases. The faces of the surfaces of the threads to be sprayed are passed at a linear speed of 30-50 metres per minute through the sprayed metal. The nipples may be 25 cm. or 40 cm. in diameter.
