PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a function that ensures that a BIOS update can be automatically performed from on line while taking over system apparatus setting information even if there is a difference in the system apparatus setting information. SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus includes a BIOS and a BIOS update unit. The BIOS updating unit operates in conjunction with the BIOS through a general-purpose SMBIOS interface, and has CMOS map information for updates and CMOS map information for each released BIOS version. The BIOS updating unit detects through CMOS map matching a difference between the current BIOS version and current CMOS map information obtained from the BIOS and the CMOS map information for updates. Based on the difference, the BIOS updating unit refers to the CMOS map information for each released BIOS version, and updates the current CMOS map information to the CMOS map information for updates.
