A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine (2) that drives a first set of wheels (IL,IR), a generator (7), wherein the generator (7) is powered by the internal combustion engine (2), an inverter (9) connected to an output of the generator (7), an AC motor (4) connected to an output of the inverter (9), and a controller (8), wherein the controller (8) controls the generator (7), the inverter (9) and the AC motor (4). The AC motor (4) drives a second set of wheels (3L,3R). Power output by the generator (7) is controlled according to a desired torque output (Trqm) for the second set of wheels (3L,3R). The controller (8) calculates a potential power (Pab1) based upon the current status of the generator (7) and controls the AC motor (4) by the inverter (9) based on the smaller of the desired torque (Trqm) and the potential power output (Pab1) of the generator (7). |
