PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for coating a granular material by which a granular material having wide applications can be obtained by subjecting the whole surface of a carbon component-containing granular material to laser ablation treatment, and coating the same with metal, resin, oxide or the like, and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: Vibration is applied to the carbon component-containing granular material by a vibration apparatus 7, so that the granular material is rotated and a new face is exposed. Then, each new face of the granular material successively exposed by the rotation is subjected to laser ablation treatment by a laser ablation apparatus 5 under the condition where vacuum ultraviolet light is generated, so that an ablator scattered from a target 5c is stuck to the whole surface of the granular material and coats it.
