PURPOSE: A method for preparing alpha-lipoic acid using lipoic acid synthetase and lipoic acid protein ligase A is provided to use in biological production of alpha-lipoic acid. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing alpha-lipoic acid is performed using lipoic acid synthetase and lipoic acid ligase A. The lipoic acid synthetase has an amino acid sequence of sequence number 6. The lipoic acid ligase A has an amino acid sequence of sequence number 8. A gene encoding the lipoic acid synthetase has a base sequence of sequence number 5. A gene encoding lipoic acid ligase A has a base sequence of sequence number 7.
