Classes 44 and 109 A clamp or capping for a rope, especially for shaft winding plants for mines, comprises a hood 3 (not shown) from which the load Z is suspended, and a wedge-shaped block 2 around which the rope is looped and which together with the rope passed round it is wedged into the hood under the action of the load, the tapered end of the wedge block projecting out of the hood at 2<SP>1</SP> and forming an introductory arc B for the rope, and the point 4 on the hood from which the load is suspended being located on that side of the hood at which the rope enters it, in such a manner that the introductory arc B of the rope which bears against the block extension 2<SP>1</SP> is bent in the same direction as the arc of the rope 1<SP>1</SP> which extends around the wider part of the block 2, the introductory arc B of the rope being freely exposed on the outer side of the arc remote from the extension 2<SP>1</SP>. The flank 3a of the hood adjacent the introductory arc B of the rope is preferably somewhat inclined so that a gap S is left to relieve the rope of any compression at this point.
