PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid construction machine for handling an abnormality generated in a superordinate control section by a subordinate control section in accordance with the kind of the abnormality, thereby improving a work efficiency. SOLUTION: The hybrid construction machine includes a hydraulic work element driven by hydraulic pressure generated by driving power of an internal combustion engine or a motor-generator, and an electric motor-driven electric work element. In the hybrid construction machine, the superordinate control section generates a control command for controlling drive of the hydraulic work element and the electric work element, and the subordinate control section controls drive of the hydraulic work element and the electric work element on the basis of the control command generated by the superordinate control section.
