<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce cellulose particles having a small average particle diameter and low crystallinity of cellulose I type by suppressing coagulation of the cellulose particles with one another. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Disclosed is the method for producing the cellulose particles, in which a grinding aid selected from a higher alcohol, a higher fatty acid, a higher fatty acid salt, a higher fatty acid ester, and a polyether is added to a low crystallinity cellulose raw material represented by formula described below with the crystallinity of cellulose I type of 33% or less, and the mixture is processed with a grinder in a dry process. Provided are (1) the method for producing the cellulose particles wherein the ratio [(an average particle diameter of cellulose particles)/(an average particle diameter of the low crystallinity cellulose raw material)] is 0.7 or less, and (2) the method for producing the cellulose particles wherein the average particle diameter of the cellulose particles is 50 μm or less. The crystallinity of cellulose I type (%)=[(I<SB>22.6</SB>-I<SB>18.5</SB>)/I<SB>22.6</SB>]×100, wherein I<SB>22.6</SB>represents diffraction intensity of a lattice plane (002 plane), and I<SB>18.5</SB>represents diffraction intensity of an amorphous part.
