<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a torque capacity by improving the shape and arrangement of the stator blades of a torque converter. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Inlet angles αr, αt of the tangents of the camber line CL of the aerofoil of the stator blades 17a of the torque converter at the leading edge 23 and the trailing edge 24 to the reference plane P extending through the axis of a stator, and outlet angles βr, βt of the camber line CL at the trailing edge 24 to the reference plane P are set in the relation of αr<βr and αt>βt, and the direction of the curvature of the camber line CL is inverted between the blade root side and the blade end side. Even if the inflow angle of the oil changes between the blade root side and the blade tip side of the stator blades 17a, therefore, the torque capacity is increased by flowing the oil to the aerofoil at a proper inflow angle in the entire area in the radial direction to prevent the flow of oil from peeling off the surface of the aerofoil.
