<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antagonist for melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) for treating obesity. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There are disclosed compounds of formulas (I) and (II), which are new antagonists for melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH), as well as a method for preparing the compounds. In another embodiment, there are provided not only a pharmaceutical composition including the MCH antagonists as well as a method for using thereof to treat obesity, metabolic disorders, eating disorders (e.g. hyperphagia), and diabetes. The pharmaceutical composition includes an obesity treating amount of the compound of formula I or II, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier therefor.
