<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dichroic azo dye having an absorption peak wavelength in a long wavelength range of ≥600 nm and an order parameter of as high as ≥0.81. <P>SOLUTION: The dichroic azo dye is expressed by structural formula (I). In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently an arbitrary monovalent group; X is an electron donating substituent; the ring Ar is 1,4-phenylene which may have a substituent or 1,4-naphthylene ring which may have a substituent; n is an integer of ≥2; and the multiple rings Ar may be the same or different. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
