The device has coils (L1, L2) independently supplied with current, where magnetic force acting on an electromagnetic switching element (SE) i.e. relay, is exerted by current feed of the coils. The switching element comprises three switches (S2, S3) designed as MOSFETs. The current feed of one of the two coils is terminated after activating the electromagnetic switching element. The electromagnetic switching element is provided for switching on and off the current of a combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
