FOAMABLE RESIN COMPOSITION AND FOAM

Provided is a foamable resin composition containing starch, a synthetic resin, an alkaline compound, and water in an amount of 10 parts by mass to 40 parts by mass relative to 100 parts by mass of the starch, wherein the content of the synthetic resin is from 0.02% by mass to 10% by mass.  The alkaline compound is preferably at least one compound selected from a group consisting of alkali metal hydrogen carbonates, alkali metal carbonates, alkaline earth metal hydrogen carbonates, and alkaline earth metal carbonates.  There is no practical problem in the cushioning performance and the like of a foam obtained using the foamable resin composition and the content of the synthetic resin is extremely low, and therefore, the foam is advantageous from the viewpoint of cost.
