IMAGE COMPRESSING DEVICE AND METHOD OF COMPRESSING IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compressing device capable of performing optimum orthogonal transformation processing according to an object to be imaged.

SOLUTION: At a two-dimensional orthogonal transformation section 20, a frequency characteristic change setting section 21 selects a filter coefficient set and applied to a frequency analysis filter 30 from a plurality of kinds of filter coefficients according to a frequency characteristic setting signal A to output the selected filter coefficient to the frequency analysis filter 30. The frequency analysis filter 30 changes and sets frequency characteristics used for analyzing image data according to the filter coefficient outputted from the frequency characteristic change setting section 21, thus performing optimum orthogonal transformation processing to the object to be imaged.
