PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the strength of an optical modulator since a plate-like electro-optical base board of a light modulator is comparatively thin and consequently low in strength to be unstably driven. SOLUTION: The optical modulator 3 includes: a thin plate-like base part 31 formed with electro-optical crystal; a first electrode part 33 provided on the upper surface 311 of the base part 31; a second electrode part 34 formed on the under surface 312 of the base part 31; and a supporting member 36 which is provided on the under side of the second electrode part 34 (that is, on the opposite side to the base part 31 of the second electrode part 34) and contacts a second electrode 341. The base part 31 has a periodically-poled structure 310, in which a plurality of first polarization parts 3111 and a plurality of second polarization parts 3112 are alternately arranged in a prescribed polarization part arrangement direction, between the first electrode part 33 and the second electrode part 34. In the optical modulator 3, the supporting member 36 supports the first electrode part 33, the base part 31 and the second electrode part 34 to improve the strength of the optical modulator 3, and consequently the optical modulator 3 is stably driven.
