PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an alkylene oxide addition product that provides a high-molecular alkylene oxide addition product with ordinary production facilities while suppressing formation of by-products, and a method for producing a derivative thereof. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an alkylene oxide addition product, the alkylene oxide addition product is obtained by carrying out an addition reaction of an alkylene oxide to a hydroxy group-containing saturated compound. The method includes: the initial step of adding average 20 moles or less of the alkylene oxide to 1 mole of the hydroxy group-containing saturated compound to obtain a low molar alkylene oxide-addition product; and the addition mole number-adjusting step of further adding the alkylene oxide to the low molar alkylene oxide-addition product obtained in the initial step; wherein a part of the total low molar alkylene oxide-addition product obtained in the initial step is used in the addition mole number-adjusting step.
