PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating radioactive ferrous metal waste which makes it possible to practically recycle and reuse a degraded decontamination liquid and also to minimize the yield of radioactive metal waste (sediment of hydride) generated in the oxidative destruction of an aliphatic carboxylic acid metal salt in a method for giving an acid treatment to the radioactive ferrous metal waste with an aliphatic carboxylic acid that is destroyed oxidatively. SOLUTION: The method for treating radioactive metal waste includes a chemical decontamination process for conducting decontamination by soaking the radioactive ferrous metal waste in a decontamination liquid containing an aliphatic carboxylic acid and eluting the surface of the radioactive metal waste as an aliphatic carboxylic acid metal salt in the decontamination liquid. Metal components in the carboxylic acid metal are precipitated and recovered on the cathode by the electrolysis of the degraded decontamination liquid generated in the decontamination process. In the electrolytic treatment, the aliphatic carboxylic acid is recycled by using conductive substrate coated with platinum group metals or platinum group metallic oxide as the anode.
