PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the temperature of a heating belt during image heating is liable to be unstable due to the heat that moves from a pressure roller to the heating belt. SOLUTION: An image heating apparatus includes a heating belt for heating a toner image on a recording material at the heating nip part, a pressing member (pressing roller) that comes in contact with the heating belt and forms the heating nip part, a heating part for heating the heating belt, equipped with a heater, a first temperature detection means for detecting the temperature of the heating part, and a temperature adjusting means for adjusting the power supplied to the heater based on the temperature detected by the first temperature detection means such that the temperature of the heating part reaches a target value. The image heating apparatus also includes a second temperature detection means for detecting the temperature of the heating belt, and alteration means for altering the target temperature when an image is heated, based on the amount of change in the temperature detected by the second temperature detection means in a predetermined elapsed time. The temperature of the heater for heating the heating belt is adjusted according to the change in the temperature of the heating belt during warm-up. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
