PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoder and decoding method in which efficiency is improved by reducing useless arithmetic processing when performing error-correcting decoding while dividing reception data into a plurality of code blocks. SOLUTION: A decoder (130) is provided with: a dividing section (131) for dividing reception data into a plurality of code blocks, the reception data being constituted of a plurality of code blocks to each of which error detection and error-correcting coding has been applied, respectively; a selecting section (132-1) for selecting one code block from the plurality of code blocks; a first error-correcting decoding section (132-2) for performing error-correcting decoding on the selected code block repeatedly until no more error is detected in a decoding result; a storage section (134) for storing the number of times of repeated error-correcting decoding due to the first error-correcting decoding section (132-2) as the reference number of times of repetition; and a second error-correcting decoding section (132-3) for performing error-correcting decoding on the remaining code blocks to which error-correcting decoding is not applied by the first error-correcting decoding section (132-2), among the plurality of code blocks, repeatedly for the reference number of times of repetition stored in the storage section (134).
