PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is enhanced in a degree of freedom in layout and enables downsizing. SOLUTION: A video camera includes a lens barrel 101, and an upper barrier group 102 and a lower barrier group 103 that open and close a front face of the lens barrel 101. The upper and the lower barriers 102 and 103 are driven in respective opposite directions to rotate about respective upper and lower barrier rotary shafts 104a and 104b disposed at positions symmetric across an optical axis of a lens as seen from the side. A spur gear 1306a and a spur gear 1307a connected thereto are provided on a side of the lens barrel 101. The lower barrier group 103 is driven by the rotation of the spur gear 1307a driven by a motor 2001, and the upper barrier group 102 is driven by the rotation of the spur gear 1306a.
