PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reliability of operation of an opening/closing member of a density detection part in an electrophotographic recording device. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming part, a belt for carrying a toner image formed in the image forming part, a density detection part, an opening/closing member and a controller. The density detection part has a light emitting device that emits light according to drive current, and a light receiving device that outputs a detection signal showing density of an incident optical image. The opening/closing member is driven so as to exist at either a closing position or an opening position. At the closing position, the opening/closing member exists between the belt and the density detection part, and light emitted from the light emitting device is reflected by the opening/closing member and made incident on the light receiving device. At the opening position, the opening/closing member does not exist between the belt and the density detection part, and the light emitted from the light emitting device is reflected by the belt and made incident on the light receiving device. The controller determines whether or not the detection signal exists within a predetermined allowable range, thereby determining which position the opening/closing member exists at, the closing position or the opening position.
