The knee joint has an electromechanical directional contact (16) including a central switch stop (16b) that establishes a switching position (S1) by contact with an inner switch stop, when a ground reaction force is greater than an adjusted prestressing force of a response threshold field. The central switch stop establishes another switching position (S2) by contact with an outer switch stop, when the ground reaction force is less than the prestressing force. An electrical or electronic interval timer is loaded in the former switching position and started in the latter switching position.
