<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately reduce or prevent a tooth knocking noise generated in a propulsion device from an engine speed fluctuation by a light braking. SOLUTION: In a propulsion device for a ship such that power is transmitted from an engine to an input pinion shaft 7 of a propulsion device 5 through a connection shaft and an input pinion 16 of the input pinion shaft 7 meshes with a drive and a reverse gears 18, 19 in the propulsion device 5, a neutral position detection mechanism 45 detecting a neutral position of the propulsion device 5 and a brake mechanism 30 braking the drive and the reverse gears 18, 19 and the driven side parts thereof only in neutral position are provided. The neutral position brake mechanism 30 is provided with a liner action type actuator 40, and cups of 32, 33 of a cone type drive-reverse switching clutch 24 are used for the driven side members to be braked.</p> |
