PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for playing a picture file in a digital image processing device are provided to enable a user to easily search the portion to be reproduced. CONSTITUTION: A motion vector detection unit(128-1) detects a motion vector for each frame of a selected video file, and a frame detection unit(128-3) detects a frame which is most variable through a control signal. A control unit(128-4) outputs a control signal to detect the frame as many as the set number. Through the control of the controller, the detected frames are simultaneously displayed. The video file is reproduced from the selected frame through the control of the controller.
