PURPOSE: An air bag control device and a method thereof are provided to accurately determine the inflation state of an air bag using the deceleration value and deceleration gradient value of a vehicle even when a vehicle crashes into a pole, such as a telephone pole or a tree. CONSTITUTION: An air bag control device(20) comprises an acceleration sensing unit(21), a controller(22), and an airbag inflating unit(23). The acceleration sensor senses the acceleration of a vehicle. The deceleration value or the deceleration slope value of the vehicle is produced using acceleration. The controller controls the inflation of the air bag using either the deceleration value or the deceleration gradient value or both. The airbag inflating unit inflates the air bag according to the control of the controller.
