PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for suppressing generation of moire due to color shift correction. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes exposure profile memory units 403C, M, Y, K storing an actual shift amount with respect to an ideal scanning direction in image carriers 51-C, M, Y, K, respectively, and a print profile memory unit 420 storing scanning exposure directions and scanning exposure numbers of the respective image forming units. Color shift correction amount computing units 407C, M, Y, K compute color shift correction amounts of the respective color components on the basis of the exposure profile, the printing profile and the printing speed. Color shift correcting units 408C, M, Y, K convert coordinates in reading image data from bit map memories 406C, M, Y, K on the basis of the computed color shift correction amounts, respectively. When the target data is judged as not on an edge of a character, line or the like, the data is subjected to a halftone process by halftone processing units 411C, M, Y, K; and when the data are judged as on an edge, the data is subject to the color shift correction, followed by a process of suppressing generation of jaggy by exceptional handling units 409C, M, Y, K.
