<p>An apparatus for loading stocking pairs onto a line closing machine (10, 12) has a number of equi-angularly spaced transfer arms (18) each of which carries pairs of support fingers (28-34) on which a pair of stockings are supported at the open end of the stockings. The transfer arms (18) are mounted on a carousel (14) for rotation about a vertical axis successively through a loading station and one or more transfer stations (20) at which the stocking pairs are loaded onto one or more line closing machines where they are formed into pairs of tights. At the transfer station each transfer arm is extended radially outwardly of the carousel with the support fingers (28-34) positioned to enable engagement of a pair of supporting arms (16) of the line closing machine into the stockings. Once the supporting arms (16) are engaged, the support fingers are pivoted away from the supporting arms to leave the stockings engaged on the supporting arms. The stockings are then processed by the line closing machine.</p> |
