PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool demonstrating the very excellent wear resistance by forming an aluminum nitride layer as the outermost surface layer of a coating film. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has a base material, and a coating film formed on the base material. The coating film is a physically vapor-deposited film, and includes a nitride layer having the thickness of 7-15 μm formed on the base material, a carbonitride layer having the thickness of 3-10 μm formed on the nitride layer, and an AlN layer having the thickness of 0.2-5 μm formed on the carbonitride layer.
