<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure which can improve the peeling resistance of a supporting catalyst, and a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The honeycomb structure includes a cell wall 12 provided in a honeycomb form and many cells zoned in the cell wall 12, and is used as a catalyst carrier for exhaust purification catalysts. The existence ratio of an open air hole 21 which is a fine pore 2 opening in the surface 121 of the cell wall 12 at the distance of 20 μm in a depth direction from the surface 121 of the cell wall 12 is 7% or higher. The method of manufacturing the honeycomb structure comprises a molding process of extrusion-molding a ceramic raw material in a honeycomb molded body of a desired shape, a drying process of drying the honeycomb molded body, and a calcining process of calcining the honeycomb molded body. The aspect ratio of a fine pore formation material which is the material most contributing to form the fine pore 2 in the surface 121 of the cell wall 12 among ceramic raw materials is 1.0-1.5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
